WIW out of the house: Bright and Sparkly

The snow that we had last week, while not totally vanished yet, has melted on the roads to the point where I finally took my car out of the driveway. It felt incredibly odd to be behind the wheel after a week of not driving at all!

I hit the mall over the weekend to run some errands - some post-Christmas returns and exchanges, and dropping off my Docs to get stretched. B, my boyfriend, accompanied me so we could exchange some dress shirts he'd received as a gift that didn't fit properly. We were able to not only find him some better shirts in fun prints that worked out much better, but also get an even better deal through a sale that Macy's had running. One of the perks (for me) of B's new job is that requires him to dress up - he's normally very much a jeans, tee shirt, and sneakers kind of guy, but I think he looks great in woven shirts and enjoy seeing him a bit more dressed up. (That's also one of the reasons why I was so excited when he recently came home with these stylish, dressy new glasses.)

On my mall excursion, I made an unplanned purchase for myself - a colorful pair of tweed Me Too flats with black patent capping the toe and heel (#2.) My Me Too Swann flats (similarly shaped - beige and black patent) are doing okay but are really starting to show their age, and I've been keeping my eye out for a replacement pair. I found these shoes very striking and also quite comfortable - they were a tiny bit snug the first time I wore them, but quickly loosened up to accommodate my odd, squared off toes. I can't wait to bust these babies out with my polka dot hose!

What I wore:
For a delicious pancake-and-bacon brunch at my parents' house - gray and black abstract floral print, long-sleeved Karen Kane sweater dress, opaque black Commando hose, silver pendant on a black cord, white Fossil watch, black and bright tweed Me Too flats, black and white oval specs.
To go shopping - Sparkly pewter drape-neck Karen Kane long-sleeved knit top, silver chain-and-feathers pendant necklace, rusty red bootcut cords, burgundy low-heeled booties, burgundy and turquoise specs.

Kari, you always look polished and pretty. That dress is particularly flattering on you. The shopping outfit is nice too. Love those flats! Pretty!

Taylor, I really didn't think I had the "magpie", daytime sparkle loving gene but I seem to have switched teams. :)

Meredith, I would highly recommend these if a medium width, slightly padded flat is what you're after. I am always cautious because I have serious trouble spots at the back of my heels that are very blister-prone, and I find these quite comfortable.

    Haaa! welcome to my world!:)

I think what was key to me is realizing that I like pieces with natural shine or sparkle in them, like this top or my sparkly bronze handbag. Sequins aren't quite my thing. But I'm definitely liking the touch of sheen or shine!

That dress is gorgeous on you Kari and I'm really loving the colour combo of your second outfit. The sheen on the grey shirt is beautiful - not too much.

Kari - you look so cute in both of these outfits! Just relaxed and comfortable with your style - AND I love those shoes!

I love the long-sleeved dress! It's so hard to find flattering dresses for winter. Cute shoes too.

You look amazing Kari. You did your parents proud to show up for breakfast looking so sophisticated. I bet your mother is as stylish as you are. You really are always polished which is wonderful. B is a looker, what a cute couple you two are.
I love the snow pictures and the snowmen!
